DIORAMA (2011–2012)

The starting point of this series was a collection of photographs of dioramas which I had taken in the Natural History Museums of London and New York. Museum dioramas are replica environments which may combine painted backdrops with realia of various kinds – natural objects, archeological artefacts, taxedermied animals and so on. In these oddly artificial places, there is a paradoxical crossover between the representational conventions of the theatre and the immersive reconstruction of a real scene.
