CONSERVATORY (2019)
These works explore the interplay between nature and technology as organic forms such as twisted vines morph into tangled cables and other electrical detritus. Here different forms of representation of nature coexist in the same space. Imagery associated with the tradition of the romantic landscape peels from the crumbling walls and mirrors which appear at first to reflect an outside space in fact display fragments of landscape painting. In this body of work I have referenced sources including the Thomas Pynchon story ‘Entropy’, where a character creates a tropical micro-climate inside his apartment, and Victorian Wardian cases and terrariums.
